Good With Grenades

Good With Grenades

Music, beer, crazy costumes , and even a real leprechaun (that may have been stolen) all made up the insane block party in Scottsdale over the weekend.

The scene of this epic shit show was Craftsman Court in Old Town Scottsdale. These block party events take place on all the major drinking holidays, I have spent many a Cinco De Mayo here. A stage is set up in the middle of the street and during the event you can go back and fourth between three bars, Dos Gringos, Rock Bar and Blitz. The event also works with a great local charity, Pepped Up! which provides portable entertainment (ipods, etc) to kids fighting cancer.

The musical lineup included reggae rockers Black Bottom Lighters and Grain Of Truth. We also enjoyed the smooth¬†sounds of The Black Moods¬†along with the high energy Good With Grenades and 90’s anthem band¬†Lit. Followed by The Wednesday Machine closing out the night.

The thing I love about St. Patty’s Day is it makes everyone Irish! We saw some really creative costumes and even a few men in kilts. The website Thechive.com (and their seriously dedicated fans) came out in full force rocking the Chive t-shirts and awesome¬†personalities¬† We met Chivers from all over the country, they were all really awesome.
Overall you could not ask for a more perfect Saint Patty’s Day. The weather was awesome, the bands and crowd were¬†amazing. We can’t wait to hear who the lineup will be for Cinco De Mayo and can’t wait for another¬†Scottsdale’s Ultimate Block Party!

The Dear Hunter is sometimes described as Indie Rock or Emo/Progressive but if I had to sum it up….a diverse jam band you could rock out to for hours. The band kicked of their tour right here in Scottsdale, AZ before heading off to SXSW and then a nationwide tour to follow.

Opening the show was Naive Thieves a refreshing, young band from Southern California. This is their first cross-country run and you could sense a bit of nerves on stage when the band interacted with the audience.

When The Dear Hunter took the stage there was nothing said that wasn’t said through song for the first 15-20 minutes. They came out and just played song after song, they had a way of just sucking you in right away. The music they play is the type I can just listen to and get lost in.

Vocalist and songwriter Casey Crescenzo from The Dear Hunter

Vocalist and songwriter Casey Crescenzo (The Receiving End of Sirens) is¬†the creative force behind The Dear Hunter and his passion for the music showed throughout the band’s set. He transitioned from playing guitar to keys several times throughout.

They played for at least an hour and forty minutes if not longer. Being the first stop on the North American tour (the band just played Soundwave in Australia) we were able to hear some of their new material from the new album Migrant (April 2, 2013).

The show was a great time and if The Dear Hunter is coming through your city make sure you go see them. For full tour dates click here.
